Recently, Café Regis in Red Lodge, MT reintroduced an old annual favorite - by popular request and for a limited time, they will be open on Mondays from 11:00-1:30 for a feast of fresh salads and soups, along with homemade breads and pastries. This lunch-time tradition is all-you-can-eat (or, as Café Regis calls it, “Eat Whatever You Want”). Guests, then, “Pay Whatever You Like”! A portion of the proceeds from the Monday Soup and Salad days goes to support Baretooth Cupboards, the local Red Lodge food bank.
This annual event is fitting as Café Regis is renowned for both soup and salad. Café Regis has a well-producing garden, even for a rocky mountain ski town! Back at the turn of the twentieth century, when the Café Regis location housed Regis Grocery, residents routinely ordered baskets of cabbage from these same gardens - turning the cabbage into sauerkraut to be enjoyed through the long winter months. Look for Garden Zucchini Tomato Basil Soup in the Ski Town Soups cookbook – created out of necessity from one year’s starling eruption of the zucchini crop!
