Cafe Kandahar Trail-blazes to NYC

Café Kandahar Executive Chef and Owner Andy Blanton recently received an exceptional achievement – Chef Blanton was invited to cook at the James Beard House in New York City, the first Montana chef to be given an invitation.  In May 2012, Chef Blanton will prepare a seven-course meal at the revered culinary institution, an extreme rite of passage for distinguished chefs.  Ski Town Soups is honored to feature Chef Blanton’s Acorn Squash Soup with Whitefish Caviar Crème Fraiche in the upcoming cookbook.

In 2010, Executive Chef Andy Blanton was among 20 semi-finalists in the Northwest and one of two in Montana who were selected in the "Best Chef: Northwest" category for the 2010 James Beard Foundation Awards, the nation's most prestigious recognition program honoring professionals in the food and beverage industries. The Northwest category includes chefs from Alaska, Washington, Idaho, Oregon and Montana.  The James Beard Foundation Awards, est. 1990, recognizes culinary professionals for excellence and achievement in their fields and continues to emphasize the Foundation's mission: to celebrate, preserve, and nurture America's culinary heritage and diversity.

Recently, Chef Andy was featured in The Missoulian.  He reminisced, “I knew then that one day, a dream of mine would be to cook at the Beard House. Not only that, I wanted to eventually win the same award, specifically, the regional Best Chef award.”
