Winning Restaurants: The Selection Process

Vision of the Ski Town Soups cookbook

Because of my passion for preparing soups, over the past 3 years I began sampling the best soups as my family and I traveled to Sun Valley, Jackson Hole, Mount Bachelor, Mount Hood, Whitefish Mountain., Big Sky, Moonlight Basin, Heavenly, Northstar-at-Tahoe, Park City, Vail, and Beaver Creek.  I believe what grew from these travel experiences was a perfectly balanced recipe for life, in my eyes: a ski town, a comfortable restaurant, and a yummy bowl of soup.  I wanted to capture these ideas in a comprehensive cookbook, thus the Ski Town Soups cookbook vision was formed: top ski towns and their best soup recipes.

Winning Restaurants Determined

Our company - Ski Town Group, Ltd. - handled the voting process personally to determine these “bests”.  We generated and contacted a large and random sample of hotel/resort/personal concierges and the local Chamber or Commerce(s) in the surrounding communities.  For select ski communities, we also interviewed a random selection of tourists.  Primarily, we asked where their “best soup experiences” have been.  Additionally, we conducted an extensive online search of restaurant reviews and recommendations (by star-counts).  With all of this information and the help of useful spreadsheets, we tallied the votes and star-counts found online.  This is how the top soup restaurant list was generated.  Being true to the interview results, Ski Town Soups will highlight 1 – 3 restaurants and their soup recipes from each ski town.  I think travelers, foodies, skiers and home cooks will surely enjoy this!
